Please join us for Meeting in the Mountains on Sunday, June 11th. Friends are welcome after 9:30am, and we will plan to have Meeting for Worship at 11. If weather and energy permit, we can move our worship down to the lake, so extra folding chairs would be helpful. We’ll head to the lake at 10:45 if that’s where we decide to be. We hope you will plan to stay for a potluck after Meeting. The host, Jenny, will also have a hike or 2 to recommend for the afternoon.
The house is #3 Lakeshore Drive in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. It’s 75-90 minutes from the city limits, heading west on the TransCanada, Rte 1. Turn off Rte1 at Highway 40, and head south past the casino. Travel on Highway 40 past Nakiska and past Fortress Junction, for about 45 minutes. Follow the signs with a right turn into Peter Lougheed Park onto the Kananaskis Lakes Trail. Pass the Spray Lakes road and continue about 5km further to Lakeshore Drive. Lakeshore Drive is the first right turn after the William Watson Lodge and the Elkwood Campground, at the bottom of a steep hill. Their “chalet” is #3 at the first fork in the road. You can park on the street or in the driveway.
THERE IS NO CELL PHONE COVERAGE south of Fortress Junction. There are pay phones at the Visitors’ Centre and campgrounds if you need help. If you plan to attend, and would like Jenny's number, please email Gabriel email@example.com, and he will be happy to pass it on.
If anyone will need help getting up a couple flights of stairs, again please email Gabriel at firstname.lastname@example.org and he will put you in contact with Jenny, who can arrange access to the door of the house without much trouble.
This is CMM's annual retreat, when Calgary Friends gather to build community and educate ourselves about something of importance to Canadian Quakers. This year we will have a special guest from Quakers Fostering Justice, Sarah Chandler, who will be leading a workshop on Penal Abolition on Saturday afternoon and evening. After arriving on Saturday, Friends will engage in a session of worship sharing on the State of our Society before lunch. On Sunday morning there will be a Meeting for Worship at the Kamp from 10:30 until shortly before lunch. Most retreat participants will stay overnight and share in the preparation and consuming of meals at the Lodge we have reserved, but Friends (both those from Calgary and those coming from farther afield) are welcome to come for only a part of the program. Greg Meaker is our registrar and is coordinating meal preparation: please contact him (email: gmeaker AT shaw.ca; phone: 403-802-3991) so we know you are coming and can have all meals covered.
Advent Sunday Meeting for Worship is a special event for our Meeting. We always start with a reading of the Christmas story and then each participant selects a character from the story, creates the character from art supplies, places it in the manager scene and tells what message this characters gave him/her.
A potluck will follow at the home of Greg Meaker.
